Basketball: How about Bears vs. Gaels?

This morning’s ESPN.com bracketology poses a intriguing possibility: Cal vs. Saint Mary’s in a first-round NCAA Tournament game at Buffalo.
Joe Lunardi still is projecting Cal as a No. 7 after its win over UCLA, and he has the Gaels as a No. 10.
Now, this is just one smart man’s educated guess, and things can (almost certainly will) change today after Cal’s Pac-10 title showdown with Washington.
But who wouldn’t like to see this matchup of the best teams in the Bay Area?
FYI, Cal and SMC have not played since the 2004-05 season, when the Gaels won 61-52 at Berkeley. The Bears own a 61-16 all-time lead in a series that dates back to the 1914-15 campaign.
Here’s Lunardi’s latest projected bracket.

Gaels vs. Bears would be great…flying 2,500 miles for the match-up not so much.

I don’t like the idea of facing Samhan, but it would be a fun matchup for the fans.

lundardi is a clown. all his predictions are based on “if the season ended today…” it doesn’t. a real man would make a prediction about the outcome of todays game, in advance, and put his balls on the line with a bold prediction. anybody can run the numbers.

No
Bay Area deserves a chance to see if both teams can advance.
That would be a terrible set up by the NCAA and I think unfair.
Cal UW today shapes up to be a very good game.
Looking forward to it.

disaster matchup that would be designed to reduce west coast schools.
since there isn’t attention to teams playing in their geographical areas when lower than 1-4 seeds we should not play St marys in the west bracket.
