Basketball: Say goodnight to the Pac-10

— West Virginia 69, Washington 56: The Mountaineers used a 15-4 run early in the second half to take charge and eliminate the Huskies (26-10), who had won nine straight games. Senior Quincy Pondexter, in his final game, shot just 3-for-9 and scored seven points, equaling his second-lowest total of the season. Sophomore guard Isaiah Thomas scored 13 points, but fouled out. The game featured 45 turnovers, 23 by West Virginia, which pounded the Huskies 40-25 on the boards.

if ohio state loses to #6 tennessee, we’ll have watched all those “top teams” that earned us our high rpi, fall right out of the rankings. syracuse, kansas, new mexico, all gone. i guess we weren’t anywhere near as good as we thought we were. still, it was a very exciting season, and i hope some of the guys find success at the pro level.

That analysis is rather shoddy. Tennessee also beat Kentucky, which seems to be a good team. In a one and done tournament one bad game knocks you out but it doesn’t necessarily make you a bad team.

We were seeded where we belonged and got beat by a very good team. That won’t change if Duke loses their next game. Washington got lucky with their seeding and played like complete idiots in the second half last night.

boy the huskies threw this one away like its nothing. i really didn’t see anything from WV that indicated they are a better team but a dumb ass effort from Quincy and the team as a whole gave the game away. just count the number of times Overton dribbled the ball inside and just threw it away with no intention to pass or take a decent shot, time and time again. i was incredulous by the lack of discipline of the team.

Did anyone else watch the Kansas State- Xavier game last night? It was close throughout, went to double overtime and then the refs completely blew what should have been a foul for two free throws. But they flagged the second foul a few seconds later that was during the act of shooting, so it resulted in three free throws and a tie game. K State won in the second overtime, so it did not affect the outcome, but the ref was standing right there and completely blew an obvious call. Unbelievable.

And one of those refs was a Pac 10 ref!

Speaking of refs, how about the UW v WV game. every single 50-50 call went invariably to WV and then those offensive fouls they kept calling on Washington, except the exact same foul is a blocking foul on the defensive side. never seen anything like that. Lorenzo couldn’t take it anymore and got a t but i cant blame him.
