Football: Catching up on links

Haven’t posted links in a little while so here is some pertinent reading:

  • A story I wrote for today on the budding rapping career of wide receiver Alex Lagemann. Includes video of “Loggy” doing one of his songs.
  • To hear Lagemann’s mixtape, click here.
  • Jon Wilner of the Mercury News weighs in on Saturday’s controlled scrimmage.
  • Jahvid Best might be a good fit for the Detroit Lions.
  • Best is one of 16 players who have been invited to be present in New York City for the NFL Draft.
  • This analysis has Best as the third-best running back in the draft.

I am positive Best gets drafted by the Raiders. I’ll be happy too, I’m a Raiders fan.

There’s no way he doesn’t. He grew up a Raiders fan, he’s local, and more importantly he ran the fastest 40 time of any running back.

  • Davidson

If Best were drafted by the Raiders, I would be both bummed and stoked.

Bummed because his career is going to suck.

Stoked because I’ll be able to buy a awesome looking silver and black jersey with Best on the back.

  • rollonubears

you can get a jersey with just about anything on the back except “ron mexico.”

Don’t know how close you are to Wilner. If you are, I’d ask that you recommend sidling up to some guy on his deathbed like Albom did so he can write a book about it, get rich and stop “reporting” on local sports. He obviously hates what he’s doing right now, and I worry about his metal and physical health.

  • Raf

Correction: 16 players have “confirmed” they are going to the draft. Last I saw 18 were “invited.”

  • charlie

ouch! Wilner didn’t hold back…this is bad news from the offense.

I wonder how much of the lackluster offesive performance had to do with the fact that the defense may know what’s comming from the offensive – given their familiarity with the plays and the “situational” aspect of the scrimmage…?

  • milo

Defense usually gets ahead start on the offense. Also, from the reports, Pendergast has the D revved up and ready. The D is supposedly very excited with the new philosophy and Jordan is supposed ready to rip.

  • Tyler M.

I think that Jahvid should have taken the Mark Sanchez route and stayed home with friends and family. Remember how lonely A Rodgers looked…

you can bash wilner as much as you like, and say he is biased or hates what he does, etc. i have no reason to doubt anything he says. it’s odd most people here will easily accept what JO reports (which is nearly always only the good news–remember preseason last year when JO said the o-line was strong and nothing to worry about?) and not accept anything bad from anyone else.

there probably are certain factors that made the offense look bad. the defense knew the schemes? sure, but unless they have significantly changed, probably the rest of the pac-10 are pretty familiar with them too.

i’m assuming bad until i see otherwise.
