Football: Thompson goes in 7th round

Former Cal cornerback Syd’Quan Thompson has been selected by the Denver Broncos in the seventh round of the NFL Draft (225th overall). This is a little later than most projections, although Thompson himself didn’t rule out the possibility of not getting drafted at all.

There are about 20 selections remaining. Offensive tackle Mike Tepper is the only other realistic possibility for a former Cal player to be drafted, although one recent mock draft had wide receiver Verran Tucker going late in the seventh round.

They have mock drafts going to the 7th round? Yeesh, what kind of loser puts those together. The 49ers will regret not taking SQT. They will face the curse of the Big Tomato. 916!!

Feast or Famine, that has been the theme for Cal football recently. We provided the only 2 first round picks of the conference, (yes the same conference where the team that currently leads the nation in all time number of first rounders resdes. the U and Ohio state follow in case you are 2nd and 3rd) and then we disappeared all the way till the 7th. I thought Syd would fare better than rd 7, but its OK, what matters is the marriage not the wedding. I also thought Tucker would go in somewhere. Not surprised about Tepper and Boteng though. All in all though this has been a very successful draft for Cal as both of our legitimate draft prospect got draft higher than projected. GO BEARS!
