Basketball: It’s official — Dana Altman signs 7-year deal worth $1.8 million per with Ducks

Oregon held a press conference Monday afternoon at soon-to-be basketball home Matthew Knight Arena, introducing Creighton’s Dana Altman as its new coach.

Here are a few early details from the Oregonian.

After a search that lasted nearly six weeks, Altman understands he wasn’t the first coach to whom the Ducks looked.  Looking over at his wife, Altman joked, “I wasn’t her first choice, either.”

Oregon’s returning players are excited about the hiring. “I liked everything he said,” center Michael Dunigan told the Register-Guard of Eugene.

Register-Guard columnist George Schroeder writes that Altman may not be flashy, but brings substance to the job.

that is really sad. this guy has seriously low self-esteem. good for the bears, but i’d be pretty miserable right now, if I were a duck.

Maybe he’s just a self-effacing humor sort of guy. They do exist, and many of them are quite successful and damn good at what they do.
