Football: Cal lands quarterback

Scout.com is reporting Cal has secured an oral commitment from Mitty-San Jose quarterback Kyle Boehm, who had offers from many Division I schools, including Pac-10 rivals Washington, Oregon State and Arizona State. Scout ranks Boehm as the 20th-best quarterback in the 2011 class. Boehm becomes the third player to commit for 2011, joining defensive tackle Mustafa Jalil and running back Darren Ervin.

Wow did Tedford pull the wool over his eyes!!!!

“I just committed to Cal,” said Boehm to ESPN’s Greg Biggins. “I was the first quarterback offered by Cal this year and that always meant a lot to me. Coach Tedford’s reputation for producing quality college quarterbacks speaks for itself and I had a very good comfort level with him and Andy Ludwig, the offensive coordinator there. ”

    Who does he speak?

There goes another QB up in flames or should I say mentally in flames.

Wow, this is an excellent get for the Bears! Definitely rated one of the top 5 QB’s on the west coast. Nice work by the coaching staff.

  • Bears

That’s big news. What do the local hs sports staff have in regards to info on him. Big kid who can run, right? What kind of student is he? Big fast good arm smart strong leader is what the Bears need. Hope this kid has those talents/the ability to be strong at all of them going forward. Interested to learn more about him. Hope he has the personality and vision to be a strong recruiter for his future team!

    Nice get Tedford!

Kyle is a local, Amy. I’m sure he just had a good laugh at your expense.

I know several Stanfurd fans who have watched him play really hoped he would go to the farm. Should be nice to have local reporting on his Senior season.

Now that he is a Cal commit, I might drop by some home games to see him play in person. I live very close by Mitty.

    Go Bears!

  • Larry

I don’t mean to be Debbie-downer on this kid but, what is so special about: “Finished with 881 yards passing for seven touchdowns and had 861 yards rushing for 12 touchdowns.”

The only thing that jumps out is his height 6′ 3″.

Is anybody familiar with him? Does he have “it” so that we can ignore the pedestrian 881 yds passing? I don’t get why the interest in him. Tim Tebow disposition?

Larry, there isn’t any question that Boehm is a work in progress, but he has a tremendous upside due to his overall size and athleticism. Oh yeah, he is entering his Senior year in high school. Plus, he dominated the Elite 11 camp at Memorial last week.

Also, saw some tape of this kid, and he looks strong. He is in a run-first offense, but good stength and accuracy on the passes when he is called on to make them. Some develop, some don’t; some are willing to put in the work to raise themselves to the level needed, and some don’t; but this kid looks like he has the tools.

    To Kyle,

Good Call. You will be a 3 year starter!!

  • MoreNCsarecoming

Sounds just like another Joe Ayoob. Why is it that every QB you guys sign has that “Some develop, some don’t” quality? You know what they say about sleepers.

Most of the time they never wake up.

  • Big D

He still has his senior season of high school, so he could post some really good numbers.
