Football: Cal won’t be champs
By Jonathan Okanes
Thursday, June 10th, 2010 at 1:50 pm in Football, off-season stuff.
According to Cal athletic director Sandy Barbour, USC’s forfeiture of wins from the 2004 season won’t result in a Pac-10 championship for the Bears. Barbour said it’s conference policy simply to officially say that season’s championship is vacated, without naming a replacement champion.

Nor should we be. We lost to them. Period. I want the drought to end when we win the championship outright, not on a technicality.
June 10th, 2010 at 3:01 pm
Disagree that it is a technicality MEXgldnbear. I could see calling it a technicality if the ineligible player was some scrub who got one or two snaps and didn’t affect games. But, when the ineligible player is their best player, and blatantly should not have been allowed to play it changes everything. Without Reggie Bush, U$C does NOT beat us, and does not run the table in 2004. Period. Regardless of the Pac 10′s bizarre little internal policy, in my mind we are now the definitive Pac 10 champs from 2004!

MEXgldnbear: kind of agree with you…hard pill to swallow that perhaps in our best season yet under Tedford, closest we ever came to the promise land, we lost to a team that cheated though…nonetheless i don’t want my Bears to return to Tournament of Roses and bask in the pageantry and all on a call by administrators, no real competitor would be satisfied with that, let alone be proud about that. in fact i am not even sure i would be excited to see the Bears go to the Rose in the next couple of years during USC’s ban, especially if we lose to them during the regular season. that is just NOT how championships work. no asterisks, no footnotes, etc…
June 10th, 2010 at 3:32 pm
MEXgldnbear, Abe,
Ditto. I don’t want to back in — I want to go through the front door.
June 10th, 2010 at 3:49 pm
Yeah, can’t cry over spilled milk…but I can say – U$C you bunch of bloody pikers. Piss off.

Anybody know where Amy is? LOL!

I think she realized that her handle was no longer appropriate. MoreNCsarebeingtakenaway is more like it!

Bwahahahaha, poor troll. Poor poor troll. The fodder is just too great.
June 10th, 2010 at 5:57 pm
This is all too predictable. On the same week the Pac 10 is talking about adding 6 more teams including OU and Texas, the premier football program is slapped with a penalty. What was the real crime? We are too successful. All of the original 9 dwarfs in the Pac 10 needed a jump as does the newest 6. Take out the giant and let the dwarfs get their time in the spotlight. Create some excitement even if it let’s perennial no BCS, no Heisman, No Rose Bowl teams like Cal state and Arizona get their opportunity. Too predicatble.
I am sure many programs are consulting their legal counsel right now.

USC will be lucky if they have a winning record for the next 4-5 years.
Being able to only add 15 scholarships a year for 3 years is a huge disadvantage.
Think about it. Let’s say you have the maximum 85 now.
25 graduate, add 15, you’re at 75.
20 graduate, add 15, you’re at 70.
25 graduate, add 15, you’re at 60. Oh yea, and 25 walk-ons to get to 85. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Even after the 3 years, you can only add a max of 25 players a year. So once you’re at a low 60, let’s say 20 graduate, you add 25, you’re only at 65.
Depth will be an issue.
June 10th, 2010 at 7:30 pm
Haha, ESPN’s title right now reads. “WALK OF SHAME” with a picture of the USC Trojans.
You might think USC will still be able to recruit strong with only 15 scholarships (ha), but you’ll be wrong. Kid growing up now don’t want to be associated with cheaters.

Oh, but it’s okay, you guys still have Lane Kiffin. Oh I mean, his father.
June 10th, 2010 at 7:52 pm
Good for the NCAA. If they dug a little harder they would have found all kinds of abuse. We’re lucky they only got us for Reggie.
June 10th, 2010 at 7:56 pm
I’m celebrating a championship, whther Barbours coming to the party or not. And next year, I’d like to celebrate another one. Go Bears!
June 10th, 2010 at 9:35 pm
2004 was a great year for us and the only thing that makes me sad is knowing that we were denied the Rose Bowl by that crying twit Mack Brown and we were denied a perfect season and a shot at a National Title by that lying cheating scumbag Sneaky Pete Carroll and his paid ringers!
June 10th, 2010 at 9:42 pm
If 2004 was such a great year for you guys then why were you thrashed, smashed, and humiliated by Texas Tech?
BTW I called that game perfectly.

Here is what I see with all of the gloating on this board (and elsewhere). This USC news is what you vicariously need in order to eliminate your truly pathetic peerformance as a program over the past 50 years. Furthermore now maybe you can find rest from your own indiscretions – Isaac Curtis suspension and penalties (Daddy told me about that), Chuck Muncie and Jason Kidd never going to class, Mike White and sanctions for his cheating ways, the Holmoe era and the professors who gave away grades to Ainsworth and Davenport, and then there was the saintly Todd Boseman and Jelani Gardner.
Physician heal thyself!

I don’t know what the troll is saying, but here’s a guess:
“WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.”

USC Stole Our Rose Bowl
June 11th, 2010 at 8:40 am
Since, as moron the troll loves to remind us, the NCAA is the only collegiate sports governing body that matters, this decision to impose sanctions on the u. of stupid crooks is obviously fair, just and righteous.
June 11th, 2010 at 9:04 am
The title “Football: Cal Won’t be Champs” is certainly fitting, historically right and prophetic. Here is to another 50 years of futility with a new conference make up.
June 11th, 2010 at 11:14 am
Stop your crying moren. You guys cheated, now you are punished. All we hear is “WAAHHHHH” while you point fingers. Take you punishment like a man.
June 11th, 2010 at 11:46 am
Davidson, you are assuming that moron the troll is, in fact, a man.
June 11th, 2010 at 12:40 pm
Reggie Bush got money from an agent. Reggie Bush cheated.
OJ Mayo got money from an agent. OJ Mayo cheated.
USC the program has yet to have anything stick. This case comes down to a 2 minute phone call supposedly that happened with a coach.
OTOH, you guys cheated with some guy named Isaac Curtis. You also cheated with Muncie and Mike White. Jason Kidd never went to class. Under Holmoe a couple of your players got free passes from some faculty paid off by the athletic department. And then there was the saint of all saints Todd Boseman who paid a player 30K.
June 11th, 2010 at 1:31 pm
Schools are responsible for policing their programs. Its clear the NCAA concluded that the u. of sloppy crooks chose to look the other way in the Bush and Mayo cases. Who knows how many other instances were identified in which the evidence was not clear enough to single out players and specific events? SUV Joe comes to mind…
June 11th, 2010 at 1:48 pm
do you understand what “lack of institutional control” means? usc is ultimately responsible for what goes on regarding its players and these sorts of infractions.
June 11th, 2010 at 2:35 pm
I’ll say it again: “wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh” hahahahaa this moren meltdown is probably pretty epic.
June 11th, 2010 at 10:21 pm
And will there be an investigation into the Joe McKnight car incident? I think it might be better for USC to just shut up and take the penalty rather than have Mike Garrett continue to run his mouth and appeal. People talk about the rats leaving the ship, meaning Carroll, Mayo and Bush, but McKnight left early after last season and there might be a stink following him as well.
