Football/basketball: Will they or won’t they?

Latest reports now have Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State getting even closer to joining the Pac-10, but it looks as though Texas A&M is leaning toward the SEC. However, this report says Texas will remain in the Big 12, which might completely blow up Pac-10 expansion.

It will be ironic if the Chancellor’s and conference’s greed ends up netting them a couple of low-revenue fish, adds a tough team to beat like Utah that earns the victor no credit, destroys PAC-10 heritage and tradition, and puts the Texas and Oklahoma teams into the same ten-team framework that the PAC-10, until now, has enjoyed. But considering the Chancellor’s proclivity for bringing celebrity nitwits disguised as professors into the University’s academic community, I will not be surprised if he manifests the same lack of leadership and integrity in the realm of intercollegiate sports as he shown in the academic realm. 🙁

  • uh oh.

I completely agree with 66Bear. Of course, I disagree with the whole Pac16 concept to begin with, but what a f’ing joke if Scott brings in Utah and Colorado to RUIN our perfect round robins in football and basketball.

The only saving grace with the Pac16 concept is that there were SO many teams that one could feel proud about winning one of the Pac8 divisions and thus advancing to the final, but with 12 the whole concept is ruined. What are they going to do, have a PacNorth of the WA’s, OR’s, UTah and Colorado and then a PacSouth of the Bay Area, LA’s and Arizona’s? That’s not very appealing at all – especially when one considers the fact that teams wouldn’t be able to play a full schedule in either football or basketball.

So, what do we gain? It’s almost like the Big12 called Scott’s bluff and gave away their old maid.
    The idiot.
