If Pete Carroll had been such a great college coach, he would have made sure he ran a clean program. He did not, everyone knew it, and his professed ‘shock’ at the severity of the NCAA sanctions is just another way of saying ‘I know we we broke the rules, but it was not really bad enough to deserve that’.

If you think that this forum has ‘deteriorated’, moron, feel free to withdraw and stop the ongoing and incessant anti- Cal jabs and insults that you keep posting here. Frankly, any normal person should be really embarrassed to devote so much of one’s life to trolling the fan blog of a school to which he or she was refused admission. Of course, being ‘normal’ is probably well beyond the bounds of your reality.

So Cal state just offered James Sample, a safety, from Grant High School. Was does this mean? Moala, Sample and a couple of other kids have expressed their desire to play together at the same college program. We won’t be held hostage like that. We will offer only to the best.

The fact that you have to offer Sample should clue you into one very important commitment we will be landing very soon.

I wish my buddy Jay Heater would see how this forum has deteriorated into anti-USC drivel. He knew what value I brought to this forum. He told me one time that Pete Carroll had already distinguished himself as one of the greatest collegiate coaches of all time.

Carroll left in December to become coach of the Seattle Seahawks but even now insists he wasn’t escaping the inevitable. In fact, asserting the NCAA had “an agenda,” Pete said he was shocked by the severity of the penalties.

We shift back to the classic film, Casablanca, with Bogart and Bergman, in which Claude Rains, as Inspector Renault gasps, “I am shocked, shocked to find gambling is going on in here.”

USC, in effect, gambled and lost. “The case,” said the NCAA report, “is a window onto a landscape of elite college athletes and certain individuals close to them who in the course of their relationships disregarded NCAA rules and regulations.”

At least he had the money to go to USC. Oh, nvm…didn’t graduate from their either.

I heard that Chris Little received over $200K in benefits that the coaching staff didn’t notice. Then, Yahoo! Sports and ESPN broke stories on this, to the complete surprise of Jeff Tedford and staff. Then, giving in to national pressure, Tedford finally agreed there was an issue and after considering just not allowing Little to play in the 1st half against UC Davis he dismissed Little from the team. Tedford was quoted as saying those calling for action were “jealous” of the unique athletic/academic opportunities @ Cal.

Oh, wait, we don’t know what Little did because even though he is a non-marquee memeber of the team his activities were closely monitored and Tedford took decisive action to cut a probable starting player before anyone outside the program even knew there was an issue.

I admired the program re-building that $C did. Granted it is easier someplace with success more recently than the 50s/60s/70s, but I thought Pete did a good job of leveraging the assets he had fairly. The fact that Pete was caught blatantly cheating taints his entire arc of success. The rules exist for a reason and it’s an indictment of Pete that with all the built in advantages of $C he couldn’t confine himself to operating within the rules. I suspect that Pete could have been successful within the rules, maybe not to the same level, but we will never know.

$C success was not just based on the marquee players, but also on the depth across the board, and we don’t know what lesser benefits went to those 2nd and 3rd string players who could have started on many Pac-10 teams and would have raised the level of play for what was already a tough league from #2 to #8/9 any given year.

It’s a shame and I find no humor in it at all.

I mostly skip Moron’s posts. I agree, nobody wants to waste their time reading some retarded, drivel 3 paragraphs long. I begins to read as, “blah blah blah”
That person is so sad. I couldn’t imagine going on U$C’s blog everyday, all day long and trying to piss people off, what a lame way to spend your time.
