Ex-Cal star Jerome Randle made his NBA summer league debut Monday, totaling eight points, six rebounds and five assists in just under 22 minutes of the Orlando Magic’s 86-77 loss to Indiana in Orlando.
Randle, the Pac-10 Player of the Year who signed a summer-league deal with the Magic, shot just 3-for-9, including 0-for-3 from 3-point range. But he seemingly did everything else the team would want from a point guard, making both his free throws, collecting a pair of steals and turning the ball over just once.
In another game at Orlando, one-time Cal player Rod Benson, a regular in the developmental league the past couple seasons, had three points in 5 1/2 minutes of Utah’s 85-83 loss to Charlotte.

Jerome did a nice job of running the team, and left no doubt that he can get his shot off against NBA-type defenders. Defensively he was challenged trying to check Lance Stephenson, a 6’5″ guard whose starting to look like a 2nd round steal for the Pacers. Still a nice treat seeing Randle play on my day off.

Thanks JF. Please keep the updates coming as to the progress of all the Cal alums during the summer league. It would be nice to see at least 2 of them catch on in the fall. Do you know if Theo or Boykin will sign to play in any of the summer leagues?

Theo had more surgery done on his hip and won’t be available to play for a while. Haven’t gotten word on whether Jamal Boykin has caught on with anyone, but will check into it.
