Football: Gearing up

Back after a few weeks of vacation and the calendar says the beginning of training camp is only 24 days away. The first practice of fall camp is set for Saturday, Aug. 7, with players reporting the night before.

A couple of other notes for now:

–Offensive tackle Charles Ragland is transferring to San Mateo Community College but he hopes it’s only temporary. Ragland needs to catch up on his units to get eligible and his plan is to rejoin the Bears next season. Cal doesn’t have much depth at tackle and coach Jeff Tedford mentioned before the spring that Ragland could be one of the players that makes a move into competing for playing time. That being said, Tedford also admitted that fellow redshirt freshman Charles Siddoway was probably closer to playing that Ragland.

–Pac-10 Media Day is set for Thursday, July 29. This year’s event is at the Rose Bowl; previous years it was held at hotel adjacent to LAX. The event will follow Pac-10 media stops in New York and ESPN as the conference attempts to increase its exposure nationwide. Obviously, much of the discussion at this year’s event will focus on expansion and the sanctions imposed against USC (Note: Bay Area News Group’s Jon Wilner will be attending the event and providing coverage).

I just saw the Pete Carroll interview on Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel on HBO. This interview confirms everything I thought about Carroll, what a lying scumbag! The interviewer, Andrea Kraemer almost laughed in his face because his excuses were so unbelievable. Cheat On!
