Realized there are two versions of today’s feature on Clancy Pendergast on our websites. The version I linked earlier was an abbreviated one. Here is the full story.
Speaking to fans at the inaugural “March to Victory” luncheon in San Francisco today, Cal coach Jeff Tedford gave a huge endorsement of senior quarterback Kevin Riley, saying he as “much confidence in him right now as any quarterback I have ever had.”
Tedford touched on a number of topics. Here’s a recap.
Five-star recruit Kasen Williams of Sammamash, Wash., considered one of the top wide receiver prospects in the country, is expected to make his college choice public Friday. Cal is one of Williams’ five finalists. He’s also considering Washington, Notre Dame, LSU and Florida.
LB Mike Mohamed is racking up the preseason honors. He’s been named a preseason candidate for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes accomplishments on and off the field.
Here’s my feature that ran today on new Cal defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast. Turns out he had a connection to Cal before Jeff Tedford ever contacted him.
For those of you in the Walnut Creek area, or want to take a trip to Walnut Creek, some players will be appearing at Broadway Plaza on Saturday from 2:30-4 p.m. Don’t know who the players are yet, but they will be available for autographs and pictures. There also will be prizes awarded.
Of course, you can meet all the players and coaches earlier in the day at Fan Appreciation Day.
With Cal wrapping up training camp Monday with a full pads, hard-hitting live practice, it was time to back off and have a little fun today. The Bears had their own version of the Olympics, with a few “events” on the Memorial Stadium field followed by some fun with the incoming freshman who have made their way on campus with classes starting on Thursday.
Our usual live chat will be held again Thursday from 1-2 p.m. Jeff Tedford is expected to reveal the starting lineup just a couple hours before that, so it should make for some good material. Hope to see you there.
As expected, Jeff Tedford wasn’t prepared to size up his depth chart immediately after Monday’s practice. Training camp came to end with the second and last live practice, and it no doubt went a long way in settling position competitions at cornerback, outside linebacker, defensive end, offensive guard and wide receiver.
