Football: Tedford talks Arizona

Cal doesn’t hold its weekly press conference during bye weeks, but coach Jeff Tedford actually requested an informal media session this morning.  Because of the late nature of Saturday’s game, and the way it turned right at the end, some writers (including yours truly) weren’t able to get down to the locker room in time for Tedford’s post-game availability. Tedford knew there would be a lot of follow-up questions about the game this week, and he said he wanted to get them all out of the way immediately so he could move on.

Basketball: Kravish enjoyed Cal recruiting trip, but his coach says he is undecided

I talked this morning with David Kravish’s high school coach, who said the 6-foot-9 power forward’s weekend visit to Berkeley went very well.

“He said it was great,” said Mike Hilbert, coach at Lee’s Summit High in a Kansas City, Mo., suburb. “I said, ‘Oh no, now you’ve got a tough decision,’ because he really liked his visit to Iowa.”

Kravish visited Iowa several weeks ago and has a recruit trip to Colorado set for this weekend.

“He said, `Coach, I have no idea what to do now,’ ” Hilbert said. “He had a tremendous time (at Cal), really enjoyed the campus, really enjoyed getting to look around.  He really enjoyed the time he enjoyed with the coching staff and teammates out there.

“He was hoping through the process he could start eliminating (schools), but he liked them both equally. That’s what he said. He doesn’t know which way to go. He’s still very much up in the air.”

Football: From the press box

  • You could make the argument that was the most painful loss of the Jeff Tedford era. The defense dominated all night, only to give up the one big play to set up the winning score.
  • The Bears may have played it too conservatively on their final couple of drives, keeping the ball exclusively on the ground and going for field goals instead of attempting to get it in the end zone.
  • RB Shane Vereen finished with 102 yards rushing. He also caught a pass for the 30th straight game, every game of his career.
  • CB Bryant Nnabufie had one of his better games, including two tackles for loss.
  • WR Marvin Jones had four catches for 41 yards and went  over 1,000 yards for his career.
  • Tonight marked the first time since 1994 that Arizona won a game by scoring just 10 points.
