I am very happy that Conte has found his position and is producing for the Cal defense. He probably should have asked for that position swift to safety much earlier in his career. He looked lost many times at CB during his sophomore and junior seasons, and even worse, seemed to lose his ability to tackle in open space. I remember several times seeing Conte drop to his knees and miss a tackle trying to bring down an open field runner. Maybe he can be the next Matt Giordano at the safety position.

Conte is yet another example of the misuse/under-use of roaster talent by this coaching staff. not being able to recruit talent is a far easier problem than not being able to use it. You want more examples? Look at the career of Randle under Ben v Mike: under Ben he was so lost being asked to do things not in his strength, he was close to transferring, (kind of like Conte) then Mike came along and he ended up being Pac10 player of the year. Great coaches make the most of out of the talent the have by first recognizing it and then architecturing schemes to find ways to fit it. I dont think anyone disagrees with me when I say that our football program has spectacularly underachieved in the last few years and the career trajectories of player like Conte is evidence of that.
