But I restate- I don’t think anybody has any justification whatsoever in calling Kelly a jerk at this point. It’s ridiculous- He’s done nothing to warrant that.

Furthermore, I think he’s the absolute MAN, and if he was doing what he is doing at Oregon at Cal, especially if he gets to the NC game this year and wins it, we’d all want to put up a statue of him. In fact, due to all the off field issues and how he’s handled them, we’d all be lauding him for cleaning up the program and cultivating a winning tradition on and off the field.

So Chip Kelly is a jerk? Please. That’s jealousy and frustration over the state of Cal football talking.

I’ll say what I’ve been saying for a long time. I think Tedford is our program. He built what we have. He got all the credit when it was all sunshine. But now he gets all the blame when it’s been a downward pattern for 3 years. So either fix it, which I’m rooting for b/c I like the guy and do think he does a good job of representing our school. But if he doesn’t fix it then it’s time we move on.

As others on here post, what other school would pay him $2.8 million at this point? So why should we? Representing the school well is the bare minimum.

1. Everyone blames him for the bad reputation Oregon has. Blount, Masoli, etc. I don’t have a problem with him. The other thing I did base that on is halftime of the Stanford game when he was being interviewed by ABC he said that the referees were acting like they were personal friends of Harbaugh.

I don’t dislike the guy. I think he’s awesome at his job. And I’m not someone who is that excited about graduation rates or things like that. In a perfect world it’d be great to win titles and have excellent students. But the truth is I’m of the opinion that the academically driven students would never be held to athletic standards, so the kids who go on athletic scholarships shouldn’t be held to academic standards that the nerds like me are.

I don’t think he’s a jerk. My comment was that people make him out to be a jerk. Nobody ever mentions how a former cal player got kicked off the team two years ago and is in prison.

I think he’s the bomb. What he has the Ducks doing on the field is beyond impressive- both the result and how his team accomplishes is unparalleled. It really is mad genius brilliance.

Beyond that, Kelly is always respectful of opponents, he hasn’t done anything that would classify him as a jerk- unless I am forgetting something.

And finally, for the off-field problems many Oregon players have had, it’s not fair to pin that on Kelly. He didn’t recruit any of these problem guys, he inherited those guys. Don’t forget this is only his 2nd season as head coach.

I have been impressed at every step how he has handled these problems and been willing to go as far as dismissing key players from the program.

How is he a jerk compared to, say Tedford, or any coach, for that matter?

Also, being most excited/motivated this week does not mean that they were not motivated/excited in previous weeks. It’s only natural for more adrenalin to rush against the #1 team and in big game week. I’m pretty sure the Ducks were more excited about their USC and OSU games than games against UW and UCLA.

Look at the national sports websites that both media and recruits read. Who is on ESPN or Sports Illustrated orCBS Sportsline plugging Cal ?

Florida, Kentucky Notre Dame have fans plugging their schools even if they can’t write a complete sentence, but we have very little. I go on and defend Cal but our fans are almost non-existent. Recruits read this stuff.
