Basketball: Kravish signs on dotted line

As expected, Cal received a letter of intent Wednesday from 6-foot-9, 200-pound forward David Kravish of Lee’s Summit HS in suburban Kansas City, Mo.

Here’s what Mike Montgomery had to say:

“David is a slightly built big man with a very good skill set and understanding of the game. We saw David in the summer. We thought he was a good shot blocker with good timing, a good jump hook and overall good skills. We got pretty excited about him and pursued him pretty hard.

“He’s a very bright kid that intends on becoming a pre-med major, and he actually has a chance to be a doctor. He’s a serious-minded student with great upside that comes in here with a great attitude. He’s very excited to be a part of the program and we’re excited about having him, as well.”

The Bears are not expected to sign anyone else this fall, but have two scholarships to give in the spring.

Jeff, will you be covering the game today vs. Sonoma State?

How many pullups can this kid do?

  • SteveNtexas

There are still two highly ranked California kids unsigned- but seems like Cal is low key about recruiting.

Cal wins the pac 10 for the first time in 50 years and Monty manages to strike out (Green, Castro Valley Kid, Brown etc etc) with the recruits.

I am at a loss as to how Monty has not brought in a top big man. I guess his previous college history was trumped by the Warrior fiasco and Randle having free reign. Perhaps if he coaches up Max or MSF this season, some top big will realize he funnels every possession through the post when he has someone who can do it.

It’s always good to have a shot blocker with a hook shot (hope he can hit from 6+ feet), so welcome aboard, Kravish.

Max signed a professional contract in China. He is gone for good. I don’t think MSF has great jumping ability, but maybe losing all that weight will help!

he got Mark Madsen an NBA career. I think every big man should want to sign with Cal. although, his poor use of Max last season was puzzling.
