Football: Wednesday afternoon report

Jeff Tedford, Cameron Jordan and Chris Guarnero had to run off to the Guardsman Luncheon after practice  this morning, but before they did we got a few minutes with Tedford.

He said cornerbacks Darian Hagan and Marc Anthony were still on track to return Saturday, but Hagan is still wearing a red jersey. Anthony was in a yellow jersey, meaning he is closer to coming back.

Tight end Anthony Miller also wore red today. He didn’t appear to be especially injured walking up the steps of Memorial Stadium, and Tedford said he was just resting aches and pains. He said Miller  should play.

Wide receiver Jeremy Ross has a finger injury, but Tedford also said he should play.

Keep in mind with these comments that Tedford has said he will no longer talk about injuries. That hasn’t been a completely steadfast rule, especially in the case of serious injuries like the one suffered to Kevin Riley. But in general, status updates should be taken with the proverbial grain of salt.

Tedford was asked if the Oregon game is finally out of the players’ systems. “That’s long gone,” he said. “Nobody is sitting around thinking about last week. ”

When asked for his favorite Big Game moment, Tedford said it was still the aftermath of his first one when the Bears broke a seven-game losing streak against Stanford in 2002 and the crowd rushed the field and took down the goal posts. “That was pretty exciting,” he said. He also mentioned the end to last year’s game.

I’ll have some more quotes that I’ve gathered throughout the week a bit later.
