Basketball: Saturday night wrap

Cal’s big win over New Mexico salvaged what could have been another brutal day in the Pac-10.

Here’s a look at the rest of it . . .

— Arizona State: The Sun Devils (1-1) got 19 points from Trent Lockett and 15 and the game-winning 3-pointer from Ty Abbott to beat UAB 69-66 in Tempe. ASU won despite shooting 3 for 17 from 3-point and getting outrebounded 32-25.

— Oregon: The Ducks (3-1) lost 75-72 at home to a San Jose State team that hadn’t beaten a Pac-10 opponent since 1992. Senior Joevan Catron scored 25 points, but Oregon committed 17 turnovers and was outrebounded 42-33. Point guard Malcolm Armstead had a game to forget: 1 for 10 shooting with six turnovers.

— USC: The Trojans (2-2) lost 64-63 to Bradley at the Tip-Off Classic in Springfield, Mass. All-conference forward Nikola Vucevic had 22 points and 15 rebounds, but didn’t get enough help. Guard Maurice Jones shot 0 for 10 and was scoreless.
