Punter Bryan Anger didn’t make the final cut for the Ray Guy Award. The three finalists are Georgia’s Drew Butler, Iowa’s Ryan Donahue and Florida’s Chris Henry. Anger currently ranks fourth nationally in punting (45.96 yards per punt)

Damn what a shame, he was the lone bright spot of Cal Football this season.

Anger may be a bright spot, but Cal has had much better punters in the past. The Big Game may have been the first game all season that he did not shank a punt off the side of his foot. He has such a strong leg, he often outkicks his coverage, like what happened against Oregon, and the receiver ran it back for a touchdown. That punt cost Cal the Oregon game, not Giorgio’s missed field goal. Anger also outkicked his coverage on a punt in the Big Game, but luckily, the receiver only ran it back for 30 yards or so. I’d rather have him kick it 40 yards with some hang time, than kick it 65 yards and get it run back for a touchdown.

why not just kick it 65 yard out of bounds?

that oregon return had 2 illegal blocks in the back that weren’t called. it wasn’t anger’s fault, but i agree, he’s fallen off a bit since last year.
