Football: Cal admits to faking an injury

Cal announced after the game that defensive line coach  Tosh Lupoi was suspended today for instructing a player to fake an injury during the Bears’ 15-13 loss to Oregon two weeks ago. That player was nose tackle Aaron Tipoti for a play that received widespread media attention. Coach Jeff Tedford said he had no knowledge of Lupoi’s instruction to Tipoti until Lupoi admitted it to him.

Football: Jordan’s touchdown

Cameron Jordan’s 21-yard fumble return was the second touchdown of his career. He also returned a fumble 13 yards for a score in 2007 at Arizona State.

Football: First half shutouts

Cal’s shutout in the first  half  marked the fifth time this season the Bears’ defense has held a team scoreless at halftime. They also did so against UC Davis, Colorado, Arizona and UCLA.

Football: Tavecchio’s field goal

Giorgio Tavecchio’s 53-yard field goal to end the first half was the longest of his career and two yards short of the Cal record of 55 held by Tom Schneider and Robbie Keen.

Football: Poor turnout

Not a big surprise, but a pretty small crowd here today. T’he Thanksgiving weekend and bad weather likely are keeping some away. Right now, there doesn’t appear to be more than 40,000 fans here.
