Al Buch, a senior guard on Cal’s 1959 NCAA championship team, will be honored at halftime of the Dec. 22 game at Haas Pavilion as the first recipient of the Pete Newell Career Achievement Award.
Sounds like a good choice. Hard to argue against a man who captained Cal’s only national championship team.
Buch died in 2005 after a long battle with throat cancer. His son Jeff, a graduate of Cal’s Haas School of Business, will accept the award during halftime ceremonies at the Cal-Kansas game.
