Stanford ventured to historic Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and fell flat on its face, losing 83-50 to returning NCAA finalist Butler.
The Cardinal (6-3) shot 28 percent in the first half while trailing 41-22, then watched the Bulldogs (6-4) score the first 13 points of the second half for a 54-22 margin. At that point, Butler’s Matt Howard had single-handedly outscored Stanford 23-22. Howard finished with 27 points and 10 rebounds.
Jeremy Green scored 16 for Stanford, which shot 31 percent for the game, just 3 for 17 from 3-point range. Freshman guard Aaron Bright suffered a shoulder injury in the first half and played just seven minutes.
