Basketball: Surgery allows Powe to avoid wipeout

We somehow missed this news while in Arizona, but former Cal star Leon Powe had surgery last Friday to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee and is expected to miss about six weeks.

For Powe, who had only played in 14 games this season for the Cleveland Cavaliers, the silver lining is that he was no part of Tuesday night’s embarrassing 112-57 loss to the L.A. Lakers.

We wish Powe a speedy recovery . . . and a new team as soon as possible.

    Careful.
His new team is likely not going to be in the NBA.

i thought the Cavs owner predicted they would win a championship before the Heat. Sounds like they’re right on track.

Best of luck to Leon. The man deserves better than what he’s getting.

Leon was an absolute beast for the Bears. And his 15 minutes of fame in the NBA, 21 pts in game 2 of the 2008 finals vs lakers, was a thing of beauty. I watched that game with a bunch of chowderheads and they were all like: ‘who is this guy?’ We’d taken that type of play for granted at Cal.

And btw, he must have the ugliest set of menisci on the planet.
