Great get. Low risk high reward. Danville has produced a lot of good college receivers over the years; nice to see Tedford has taken notice.

What is a “preferred walk-on spot” at Cal?

Most coaches would rather slit their wrists than really let walk ons hang around the team. If the player isn’t up to top level competition then s/he even brings down the level of workouts. There are various terms for it, but a “preferred walk on” is one where the player is actually recruited because the coach thinks there’s a fit, but no one is willing to risk a scholarship. These are the walk ons who actually get some playing time and might get a scholarship one year along the line as a reward if not enough signees.
