Football: Bears get Lopa

Cal has received a commitment from defensive end Puka Lopa, the Grant-Sacramento High teammate of top recruit Viliami Moala. That ups Cal’s class to 21 players.

Cornerback Kameron Jackson still could be in play for Cal. It will be interesting to see where he ends up tomorrow. He still is reportedly a commit to Washington, but Cal may still have a chance.

The Bears also could be making a late push for safety Marqise Lee, but he’s considered a long shot at the moment.

Jonathan Okanes

Jonathan Okanes is in his fourth year covering Cal's football team. Previously, he covered Cal's men's basketball team for four years. He can also be followed on Twitter at twitter.com/OkanesonCal.

  1. Lopa is said to have great passing skills and size but lacks speed- read that somewhere.

  2. Welcome, Lopa! We’re building some tremendous depth on the D-Line and nice to see us continue to recruit well at Grant HS-Sacramento.
