Go Pirates! Piedmont Hills has had a number of excellent academic achievements among it’s alums at Cal, both undergraduate and graduate, Stephen, as long as you don’t count me (jk, kinda). I’ll be watching your career with interest. [PHHS Class of '89]

What’s the difference between a “preferred” walk-on and a regular walk-on?

H8sRed, I don’t know for certain, but I believe “preferred” is basically getting the scholarship perks (priority enrollment and housing opportunities, like Clark Kerr Campus) while being a normnal pay-your-way student.

i got clark kerr, but that was offset by spending multiple nights in evans hall trying to add econ classes after getting rejected by telebears.

H8, a preferred walk-on is a player who is recruited and assured a spot on the roster but just not offered a scholarship. A regular walk-on has to “make the team” and typically isn’t recruited.
