Basketball: Monty’s post-game remarks

Here are some post-game comments from Cal coach Mike Montgomery after Washington’s 109-77 in over the Bears.

“They (Washington) were really ready to play and we were not near ready for the level of intensity that they brougt to the game. They were obviously stunned coming off of three losses, and they did a great job. They got all over Allen Crabbe with early denial and we didn’t respond very well.

“If you look at it statistically, they scored 109 points and we only put them on the free throw line seven times. We weren’t even close. They were very physical and got in our heads a little bit. We had a hard time rebounding the ball offensively and defensively. I thought they were very prepared and they were intent on coming out and proving a point after three losses, and they did.”

On Washington committing 29 fouls:
“They don’t care. They foul every time at every position and (the refs) aren’t going to call it every time. So, ultimately you are going to get down after a while. They are very physical because they are able to play nine guys throughout the game. They just do not care if they foul. They are not going to let you get to the basket.”

Got punked again by the Dawgs.

  • Uh Huh!

Oh, I think I just said that last Monty quote in the last post.
Monty needs to get 9 or 10 deep as well, then.

Glad to hear a coach finally comment on it. And people wonder why Washington is always so much better at home than on the road. It’s because they do foul on every play, but the refs always let it go so much more when they’re at home.
