Basketball: Bears drop third straight

Cal trailed by as many as 11 points before falling 75-71 to Washington State in Pullman, Wash., this afternoon. (As you know, I was not on the trip this weekend).

It was the third straight defeat for the Bears (13-12, 6-7 Pac-10), who return home to play USC on Thursday.

Cal played without freshman Allen Crabbe (concussion), but his replacement, freshman transfer Jeff Powers, delivered a career-high 14 points, including 3 for 6 from 3-point range. Powers, who had scored just six points in four previous appearance, totaled 27 in two games on the road trip.

Jorge Gutierrez scored 19 to lead Cal, but shot 0 for 8 in a scoreless first half. Harper Kamp had 19 points and nine rebounds, bouncing back nicely from his eight-point performance in Thursday’s 109-77 loss at UW.

  • Uh Huh!

Jeff Powers is thinking right about now.
“Gee, I like the state of Washington!”

  • Bearly there

They should have Crabbe playing with Powers at some point in games for added firePowers.
