I totally agree with the strategy of having a short-term goal of qualifying for the NIT. The guys on the team are playing for fun, so fun means playing more games. Going to the NIT provides that opportunity. Obviously, the long-shot goal is making it to the big dance by winning the Pac 10 tournament. I’m not sure whether winning all three remaining games or just two really helps achieve that goal.

@Jeff Faraudo If Williams leaves, I agree Arizona takes a “dip,” but a “big dip”? I don’t quite agree. You’ve also got to take into account their likely Top 10 recruiting class.

What team isn’t going to be better next year? A good question. But bear in mind that Derrick Williams, regardless of what he says now, is almost a sure thing to leave. He’s projected in one mock draft as the No. 2 overall pick. If he leaves, Arizona takes a big dip.

So true about Oregon, who saw that coming? This conference is now loaded with quality coaches, plus Utah comes in next year. Once most of the teams reload from the exodus of the last 3 to 4 years (like Arizona has done), this conference is going to be unbelievably difficult. What team isn’t going to be even better next year? (maybe WSU?)

While Cal has bounced back very nicely from losing 8 of it’s top 10 players from last season, Oregon has to be considered as big a surprise, no?
They lost most their team from last year and appeared weak in pre-season. Yet, they are right up there in the middle of the Pac, tied for 4th with a 7-7 record, better than Cal’s 7-8. Should be a good game tomorrow night!

geez, monty, this isn’t baseball. “take 2 out of 3?” the team knows they have to win 2 out of 3. maybe msf should be giving the talks. at this point.
