Basketball: No game thread tonight

By Jeff Faraudo
Thursday, February 24th, 2011 at 5:08 pm in Basketball, Gameday.

Sorry to report I am not in snowy Oregon tonight and won’t be able to provide my usual game thread on Cal-Oregon.

Just got a text, however, informing me that during warmups Allen Crabbe swished an underhand shot from nearly halfcourt. Wonder if that’s part of tonight’s game plan?

Word is everyone’s healthy and on board for the game and the Bears will use their normal lineup: Markhuri Sanders-Frison, Harper Kamp, Crabbe, Jorge Gutierrez and Brandon Smith.

I will try to post some quotes and notes tonight — depending on what I receive — and can tell you I will be at the Pac-10 tournament, covering all the action.

jorge is off. powers is his usual (fire up a few errant threes and don’t play any defense) self. solomon looks like he’s never played basketball before. we’re giving up wide open bucket after wide open bucket, and we’re giving the ball away like it’s halloween candy. all this, and we’re still down just 11. this has happened too many times. monty yells at them at half. they come back, but blow the game late. almost every road game, this has been the story.

COME READY TO PLAY BASKETBALL. OR DON’T COME AT ALL!

Sorry. Just a little peeved. Would like to be pleasantly surprised for once. This story is old and tired. As am I. Good night.

    shaddup you

Wow! More than pleasantly surprised. Way to go, Bears!

  • Stapes

That was an enjoyable second half.

  • BlakeStreetBear

Montgomery is a genius. A subtle halftime defensive adjustment and its a blowout. Lets beat the first-brother-in-law now. Go Bears!

see you next tuesday, Rollonubears. you’re the last guy i would want to see in a crisis situation. PANIC. calm the f down.

OSU beat stanford and we have not beat them in corvalis in how long? Big game Saturday!
If the depth we have next year is able to jell with our very solid core coming back the Bears will be very very dangerous next year!
Win out Cal and go dancing again!

You expect Gut and Crabbe to put up numbers and results, so it’s nice to see Brandon Smith step up. If he can run the show and average double digit points, that’s big. Go Bears!

Wow! Cal made an 11-points-down comeback in the second half look routine. The Bears won by 10 points, so that’s a 21-point gain in 20 minutes. They are playing with some confidence (this team is NOT fragile). Brandon Smith had an excellent game. Nice contribution from Richard Solomon too. And Allen Crabbe looks like he’s back to being 100%. How did Jorge end up with 23 points (very stealthy)?

    Go Bears, Beat the Beavers.

Don’t some of you have issues with how Monty used his time outs?

  • Uh Huh!

Wow. Rollonyoubears has over taken me as the most downcast participant on this blog yet! HA HA!

  • rollonubears

probably so. i feel bad. they really turned it around big time last night. the officiating was pretty good, too. fair, anyway. bears really made me proud. i hate mentioning the NIT, but i think if we do end up there, we have a decent shot to win that. if we win the next 2, and can somehow make it to the pac10 title game, we should get a shot at the ncaa tourney. i know we probably we wont, but i think we should. we lack the depth needed to win 3 games in a row in the pac10 tourney, but i really think we have a shot at getting to that final game.
