I like the explanation the TV guys gave.
Jay John was head coach. They changed the rules on him as an Asst coach. Then he comes down here as an Asst and doesn’t realize the rules are changed. That made me feel better about it.

But…. wait a minute…. as I write this…. as Head Coach, shouldn’t John have known exactly what all the rules were for his staffers under him? This makes me think that Cal Compliance does it’s job, but that OSU apparently had so little regard for the rules that John could have been Head Coach all those years and STILL not known what the rules were. Wow.

Consider how $C stone-walled the NCAA for 2 years (over cash, cars, housing) and then hired Kiffin and what they got…this is absolutely ridiculous.

It’s the publicity that’s bad. Maybe if Monty had made one of those calls, but had logged it, and offered 200k to the father of a really good player (not to the guys he was calling), we’d just gotten censured – a la Auburn. Oh wait, they didn’t even get that. NCAA fairness at its best.

Two years probation is still severe. I take it the probation is for the men’s basketball team only and not for the athletic program as a whole.
