Basketball: Kamp honored by NABC

Cal junior forward Harper Kamp was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ District 20 second team.

District 20 is strictly the Pac-10 Conference and the coaches name a five-man first team and a five-man second unit.

The NABC’s District 20 first team includes Derrick Williams of Arizona, Isaiah Thomas and Matthew Bryan-Amaning of Washington, Klay Thompson of Washington State and Nikola Vucevic of USC.

Joining Kamp on the second team are Jeremy Green of Stanford, Malcolm Lee and Reeves Nelson of UCLA and Joevan Catron of Oregon.

Mickey McConnell of Saint Mary’s and Kevin Foster of Santa Clara were picked to the District 9 first team and USFs Michael Williams was a second-team selection.

San Jose State’s Adrian Oliver was named to the District 6 first team and San Jose native and Oakland Soldiers alum Drew Gordon of New Mexico made the District 17 second team.

  • jeh

Jorge is left off both the first and second team? Who are the coaches involved? Do they bother to watch Cal games?

Kamp had a wonderful year, but no way any of the guys on the second team were nearly as deserving as Jorge. Ditto for Bryan-Amaning on the first team.

  • Uh Huh!

Jeh: I got no problem with Kamp being honored this way. In fact, I’m GLAD he was!
Look how many minutes he had to play. How many games did he foul out of – did he get into foul trouble? And he scored and rebounded, made free throws, and helped everyone do their thing as a quiet leader. Great guy, great leader, great player. He deserves the accolade!

  • Go bears

I agree–Kamp was a solid, consistent force throughout the entire season minus a stretch of 4 games where his numbers weren’t so high. Jorge, though I love him as a bear, was far too inconsistent. Great for Kamp.
