Basketball: Friday reading

Here’s my story on the Cal-USC game from this morning’s editions.
The story from USC’s perspective in the L.A. Times.
And a story on the Cal women, who play UCLA in a semifinal game today at 2:30 p.m.
An interesting blog item from the Seattle Times’ beat writer Percy Allen, who picked the 33 greatest players in the 33-year history of the Pac-10. The highest-rated Cal player? We’ll give you a hint: It’s not Jason Kidd. Sorry, that doesn’t work.

Jason was still pretty highly ranked but only played two years and if memory serves me correctly was injured towards the end of his second year.
I thought Kevin Johnson deserved a bit higher rating, but the most glaring error was leaving out the best clutch shooter in Cal History Ed Gray. I was so let down that he didn’t have a successful pro career but I understand there were issues.
As for Cal – USC when I turned it on I heard the announcer talk about how much USC had improved during the season. As we are a young team it should have been us who received that commentary.
