Basketball: Bears get 2012 commitment

By Jeff Faraudo
Saturday, April 16th, 2011 at 7:43 pm in Basketball, Recruiting.

Coach Mike Montgomery got his first verbal commitment for the class of 2012 from Kaileb Rodriguez, a 6-foot-9, 200-pound junior forward at ThunderRidge High in Highlands Ranch, Colo.

Rodriguez averaged 10 points, five rebounds and four blocked shots as a junior this season.

“It’s really exciting,” said ThunderRidge coach Joe Ortiz told the Denver Post. “Obviously, we’ve known for a long time that he has some special talents. He works hard at his game.”

Don’t know anything about him, but except for his blocked shots, his stats don’t come close to being exceptional and he is very skinny.

How many scholarship slots are available for 2012?

  • SteveNTexas

Scout.com not ranked nationally not ranked at his position. Other schools interested NONE

Rivals.com not ranked nationally, not ranked at his position and not ranked in the state of California. Other schools interested NONE.

Meanwhile 4 star powerforward ( same position) Angelo Chol from California went to Arizona.

DeAndre Daniels out of Taft HS in Woodland Hills has not committed yet. He’s ranked #9 at PF and is 4 stars as well.

Ryan Anderson another Cal PF ranked #28 at his position went to Boston College.

Finally Jonathan Davis another Californian, while only ranked 3 starts is going to Bball Powerhouse George Washington.

After the worst ranked recruiting class this coming year we are looking to be consistent in 2012.

Some Cal fans don’t like this but the above are facts. I am not negative not even on Tedford and I love that our baseball program is back. On non Cal Boards I support Cal more than anyone here, but with this incestuous little group I can share my doubts. We need better talent in the future.

    Steve,

Shut up. Please. For the love of all that’s holy. I have a hard time believing that you’re actually a Cal basketball fan. Cut it out. Allen Crabbe was the California player of the year and a likely contender for the Pac-12 player of the year next season.

Hey SteveNTexas- What is it, exactly, that you think Monty or anyone else can or should do to entice these players to commit to Cal rather than the schools they did choose? Please enlighten us as to what you think is being done wrong or should not be done to address this ‘problem’?

Ha ha nice BlueNGold. Glad I’m not the only one sick of steves crap, despite his disclaimer he loooooves Cal.

Sure, I wish Rodriquez were 7-1 and averaging 31ppg. But he is tall and coordinated and no one here except Cal’s staff has seen him play. Maybe his stats are low for a million reasons- defensive team, senior oriented, role player as a junior etc.

If/when he grows and fills out he will rise in the rankings and we’ll be happy we showed attention early. Sound familiar? That’s Crabbe’s story although he started off w more attention.

Also Steve post was factually incorrect – other teams were pursuing him but no formal offers yet. But hey Steve says no one else was recruiting him so it must be true.

But I don’t expect Steve to understand. And I wouldn’t care about explaining this either but his assinine quotes are almost Moren-esque
