Football: A few things

By Jonathan Okanes
Wednesday, April 20th, 2011 at 11:30 am in Football, off-season stuff.

  • One more clarification: The only open practice remaining during the spring is on April 30. It will be held at Contra Costa College  from Noon-2:30 p.m.
  • Ten former Cal players are participating in the 49ers local pro timing day today. They are: QB Kevin Riley, RB Shane Vereen, C Chris Guarnero, OG Richard Fisher, OT Donovan Edwards, WR Jeremy Ross, DT Derrick Hill, LB Keith Browner, DB Darian Hagan and DE Cameron Jordan.
  • My notebook from yesterday: OL Richard Fisher may have graduated, but he is still very present at Memorial Stadium.

    This follows up on comments by a couple of us after the Cal pracitice two Saturdays ago at Grant H.S. up here in Sacramento. Why, why, doesn’t the Cal AD send out an email to all football season ticket holders in Alameda & Contra Costa Counties giving the when & where information on the upcoming paractice on April 30th? Stanford got about 7,000 fans to their spring game at Kezar. Notre Dame has their spring game on TV. Turning out a crowd for spring paractice would fire up the players & turn on recruits. This should be a no-brainer for the Cal athletic department. I mean, we had about 400 fans for the Sacramento open practice. I would think we would have had an impressive crowd with any kind of effort by the Cal administration.

    @Bobsac:

    Please don’t take this reply as a knock or an attack – I think you are 100% correct, the school should be promoting these events as widely as possible.

    This page here has the names and emails of the entire athletic department staff:
    http://www.calbears.com/school-bio/cal-staff-directory.html

    Perhaps an email to someone at the AD’s office (e.g., Assistant AD/Events Management – Gordon Bayne – gbayne@berkeley.edu), or Ticket Sales or even Bear Backers, rather than a blog post, will get you what you want.

    Good luck and Go BEARS!!
