Football: A couple weekend links

By Jonathan Okanes
Friday, May 27th, 2011 at 9:01 pm in Football, off-season stuff.

A couple links to get your weekend started:

  • More on Kevin Riley joining the BC Lions, from the Vancouver Sun.
  • Phil Steele has released his 2011 preseason honors, and there are a lot of them (see: Giorgio Tavecchio on the fourth team). Punter Bryan Anger, linebacker Mychal Kendricks and offensive tackle Mitchell Schwartz made Steele’s preseason All-Pac-12 first team

Good on Mitchell Schwartz! I knew he was our best lineman but I didn’t know he was that highly regarded.

Phil Steele is about the only prognosticator I respect. He and I have communicated in the past and he is amazed at what football acumen I possess. When you guys were ranked #12 in preseason I told Steele that it was a sham and you guys wouldn’t even finish in the top 25. The next year when you guys weren’t ranked I said welcome to #7 in the Pac 10. He also was aware of the both the perfect calls I made. First, I perfectly called your 2004 Holiday Day massacre to the exact point. Second, I perfectly called your massacre against the Vols.

I predict that U$C won’t go to a bowl game this year. I made the same prediction last year and I was right!

  5. MoreSanctionsComing Says:

I have received numerous accolades for my football acumen. I am the world’s premiere football expert. I talk to all of these professional sports writers and give them advice/tips/pointers as they bow to my football genius. Bow.

If any of you (JO included) have any questions about the sport, feel free to tap my hyper-informed insight.

I only have one rule for questions I am willing to take however: They must not involve the cheating team USC – the program is irrelevant, illegitimate, and I won’t soil my good name by speaking of them until they get their act together and quit embarrassing the Pac-12.

  6. MoreSanctionsComing Says:

Daddy told me that when you talk about cheaters like U$C, it makes Jesus cry.

  7. MoreNCsarecoming Says:

I predict that as long as Tedford coaches the football team there will never be a lack of advisors needed for the Social Welfare program.

  8. milo Says:

I predict as long as there is U$C football, there will be a pro team in LA and there will be sanctions.

Was down at the beach in south oc, usually lot’s of usc colors showing. Saw 3 guys with Cal hats/shirts on Dana Strand. Saw no Usc stuff whatsoever. The rats are jumping off ship.

  11. MoreSanctionsComing Says:

True Covinared, U$C has a big bandwagon and not that many real fans. Now that they’ve disgraced themselves and their conference, people with U$C hats/shirts are probably burning them out of sheer humiliation.

  12. covinared Says:

Sc has lots of fans. they are just laying low.

“(Phil Steele)…is amazed at what football acumen I possess.”

I wonder if MoreNCsarecoming is familiar with the saying, “The minister who must praise himself has a congregation of one.” In any case…HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.

    Hey MoreSanctionsComing,

You state the following — “I am the world’s premiere football expert.”

Since you seem to think you have especially good knowledge about the football teams in the Pac 12, why don’t you tell us the order of finish in each of the two divisions, who will win the division playoff game, and which teams from the Pac 12 will go to a bowl game. If you want to throw in what the actual records of each Pac 12 team will be, that would be great.

I’ll save your post and publish it after the season ends. Maybe others would also like to participate. Winner gets the honorary Okanes trophy.

  15. MoreSanctionsComing Says:

I’m sorry, but that information is confidential.

Tressel should have jumped ship before it went down…like Pete Carroll.

  18. MoreSanctionsComing Says:

lol. Getting under Amy’s skin & loving it.

  19. Easy Ed Says:

Maybe “Sneaky Pete” needs an assistant in Seattle. Tressel certainly meets Carroll’s moral standards!

  20. wehofx Says:

Hijack: Working out Sunday morning, woman’s late round softball was on. Never watched women’s softball – hardly watch baseball anymore – but the Lady Bears kicked ass!

Pleasure to watch. I hope they do well in the “Finals” (?).

    Go Bears!

  21. milo Says:

I think women’s softball is going to be a big draw on the P12 Network. Not only does the P10 own softball (look at the rankings) but cute coeds jacking the ball out of the park is HOT!

Now about Pete Carroll…I think Jimmy Hairball is going to job that mother in the NFC West.
