Up until the 2010 post-season, many alums (including baseball players who post on another site) wanted Esquer to go, he’d had 8 years to show something. Baseball takes time, but 8 years was a very long leash. Now he’s shown in the last 2 that maybe he’s figured out what he needs to do, but if he’s bitter about what happened, that is not going to be a good situation. Hopefully, he can get past it and Cal can begin a tradition of winning. Otoh, now that he’s proven he can win, what happens when Marquess leaves Stanfurd? Under what circumstances does he not just bolt to the Farm?

We both said we would talk about it until the end of the season, and we’re thrilled the season has kept going.”

Asked if that’s the case, Esquer replied: “I can only take her at her word.”

Great quote, coach. I wouldn’t be surprised if he bolts, and wouldn’t blame him, either. The guy got totally jimmy-jacked around by the athletic department, and the administration as a whole. Guy has handled this with more class that you could ever expect. A true professional.
