Football: Update/vacation

By Jonathan Okanes
Sunday, June 26th, 2011 at 10:31 pm in Football, off-season stuff.

I’m about to head off for two weeks of vacation. I’ll return on July 11. At that time, we will be getting ever-so-much-closer to the start of the season. Pac-12 media day in Los Angeles is on July 26 and Bay Area media day will be shortly thereafter. Fall camp starts the first week of August.

And don’t forget: The Pac-10 officially becomes the Pac-12 on Friday.

One tidbit before I go: It appears Chris Martin is on the move again. The former five-star linebacker is transferring out of Florida before ever playing a down for the Gators, just like he did last summer before ever playing a down for Cal.

Come back home to Cal, Chris Martin. You will get all the support you need to get past all the drama and just play football.

  2. go8ears Says:

What is up with this guy..

  3. rollonubears Says:

haha. called it! oh well. good luck bub.

  4. Calduke Says:

    Can he play TE??

  5. covinared Says:

Will Colorado be the next school he flakes out on?

  6. Larry Says:

Glad he left the 1st time. He appears to be a headcase.

  7. discdude Says:

No way C98…if he doesn’t want to be here, we don’t need him. This and Hasiak leaving UCLA shows that you that you just don’t need to worry if guys de-commit and go somewhere else. They are young, it’s their choice, and life goes on for everyone.

  8. brian Says:

he’s never been in trouble it was the people around him doing stuff and he didn’t wanna be around so don’t speak ill on the kid he was a huge reason we got many good recruits

  9. Tom S Says:

Welcome him back and you einsteins get a full time counselor /tutor . Can say Harry Edwards. Man up

  10. Boaltblue Says:

Brian is right. Chris Martin was a great recruiter for Cal Football. While we lost a tremendous athlete when he left for Florida, many of his “friends” who he convinced to come to Cal stayed. Overall, Cal Football is way ahead, in large part, because of Martin. I wish him well in his new endeavors.

  11. Calduke Says:

I guess there were bad people around him at Florida??
    And had to get away!!

  12. MoreNCsarecoming Says:

Wow!!!! What’s the big deal? So the kid left. I am thinking about leaving this forum. It’s better than to have my reputation soiled by a bunch of bitter fans.

  13. ScottyBear Says:

    MoreNCsarecoming:

Stop thinking about it and just go. More than just your reputation is soiled. Check your 2004 National Champs britches!

  14. Calduke Says:

If Chris Martin is a great recruiter -
    we need him NOW!!!

  15. GOGO Bears Says:

Learned this in my BA 10 class:

A guy gets fired/deleted. On the way out he yells “You didn’t fire/delete me! I quit.” Prof said boss should just let him go thinking he quit. 1) It saves on having to pay him severance. 2)Either way — same result, and it’s good for the company.

I love a good Cal education

  16. Uh Huh! Says:

Wow, so many had commented, jokingly, about the possibility of Martin never playing a down for Florida.
    Yet, I’m shocked.

  17. Big D Says:

Ricky Martin or whatever his name is was so 2010.

  18. Caladan Says:

GOGO – That happened to me. I once had to lay off several employees at my manufacturing plant. I had hammered out a better-than-policy severance package for them with our HR department. One person actually told me, “You’re not firing me. I’m quitting!”, and walked out of my office. That person’s last contribution to the Company was walking away from eighteen weeks of their salary. But they sure showed me!

  21. GOGO Bears Says:

Can someone update graduation rates at UC law schools?
That’d be a nice list to see.

  22. MoreNCsarecoming Says:

It is widely known that I am one of the only posters who posts football related material on this blog. so here is an article from Ted Miller. BTW I think it is a joke that Gonzales got TE ahead of Charles Young who just happened to be the prototype TE.And let’s be real honest about this list. A Trojan could be selected at everyone of these positions. No Keyshawn Johnson, no Ron Yary, no Anthony Munoz, no Bruce Matthews, no Sam Cunningham, no Rickey Bell, no Anthony Davis, no Reggie Bush. Laughable!!!!!
    _______________________________________________________

Today, we compile an all-time, All-Pac-10 team (No player who graduated before 1978 was considered). Thursday, we’ll rank the best Pac-10 teams.

As for picking the players, you might imagine this wasn’t easy. Lots of great players over the past 33 years. This list doesn’t include many consensus All-Americans, national award winners and players who won multiple All-Pac-10 honors.

I struggled with receiver and offensive line the most. And kicker (UCLA fans will slap their foreheads at my pick). Ten selected players already are in the College Football Hall of Fame.

NFL success wasn’t a part of this measure — just look at the QB. But there were a couple of moments — tight end and kicker — when it waved at me from a distance.

As for the per school tally, it should be no surprise that USC led the way with seven players. It might be a surprise that Arizona, with no Rose Bowl berths, was second with four. Neither Oregon nor Stanford have a player on the team.

Feel free to disagree. Or to post your own team.

    Offense

QB Matt Leinart, USC (2005): 2004 Heisman Trophy winner. Finished third in 2005. Won two national titles; played for a third. 99 career touchdown passes is 14 more than any other quarterback in conference history.

RB Charles White, USC (1979): 1979 Heisman Trophy winner. Fourth in 1978. Pac-10′s all-time leading rusher. College Football Hall of Fame.

RB Marcus Allen, USC (1981): 1981 Heisman Trophy winner. 2,427 yards rushing in 1981 is conference single-season record. College Football Hall of Fame.

WR Dwayne Jarrett, USC (2006): A two-time consensus All-American. Ninth in Heisman Trophy balloting. 41 career touchdown receptions is nine more than any wide receiver in conference history.

WR Mike Hass, Oregon State (2005): Biletnikoff winner. Consensus All-American. His 1,532 yards receiving is a conference single-season record. He also holds the single-game receiving yards record (293).

OL Jonathan Ogden, UCLA (1995): 1995 Outland Trophy winner and consensus All-American. Two-time first-team All-Pac-10.

OL Randall McDaniel, Arizona State (1987): Consensus All-American, two-time first-team All-Pac-10. College Football Hall of Fame.

OL Brad Budde, USC (1979): Lombardi Trophy winner. Three-time first-team All-Pac-10. College Football Hall of Fame

    OL Alex Mack, California (2008): Three-time first-team All-Pac-10. Two-time Morris Trophy winner.

    OL Lincoln Kennedy, Washington (1992): Consensus All-American. Two-time first-team All-Pac-10. Two-time Morris Trophy winner.

    TE Tony Gonzalez, California (1996): Consensus All-American. First-team All-Pac-10.

  23. MoreNCsarecoming Says:

    Defense

DE Terrell Suggs, Arizona State (2002): Bronko Nagurski, Lombardi Trophy and Ted Hendricks Award winner. Consensus All-American. Two-time first-team All-Pac-10. Set NCAA single-season sack record (24).

DT Steve Emtman, Washington (1991): Outland and Lombardi winner. Finished fourth for Heisman Trophy. Consensus All-American. College Football Hall of Fame.

DT Rob Waldrop, Arizona (1993): Outland and Bronko Nagurski winner. UPI lineman of the Year. Two-time consensus All-American. College Football Hall of Fame.

    DE Tedy Bruschi, Arizona (1995): Two-time consensus All-American. Three-time first-team All-Pac-10. Morris Trophy winner.

    LB Chris Clairborne, USC (1998): Butkus Award. Consensus All-American. Two-time first-team All-Pac-10.

LB Ricky Hunley, Arizona (1983): Two-time consensus All-American. Three-time first-team All-Pac-10. College Football Hall of Fame.

LB Jerry Robinson, UCLA (1978): Two-time consensus All-American. Three-time first-team All-Conference. College Football Hall of Fame.

    S Kenny Easley, UCLA (1980): Four-time first-team All-Conference. Three-time consensus All-American. College Football Hall of Fame.

S Ronnie Lott, USC (1980): Consensus All-American. Two-time first-team All-Pac-10. College Football Hall of Fame.

CB Antoine Cason, Arizona (2007): Thorpe Award winner. Consensus All-American. Two-time first-team All-Pac-10.

    CB Mike Richardson, Arizona State (1982): Two-time consensus All-American. Two-time first-team All-Pac-10.

    Specialists

P Nick Harris, California (2000): A consensus All-American in 2000, he punted a lot and was very good at it. He set NCAA records for most career punts and punting yardage.

K Jason Hansen, Washington State (1991): Consensus All-American (1989). Two-time first-team All-Pac-10. 39 career field goals of 40 or more yards and 20 of 50 or more; both Pac-10 records.

Once again Ted does his best to be politically correct. He knows everyone of those postions could be filled with a Trojan. Junior Seau, Richard Wood, David Lewis, Chip Banks, Dennis Smith, Damon McCutcheon, Sean cody, Troy Polamalu, Mark Carrier, Clay Matthews, Tony Boselli, Darrell Russell, Joey Browner, Willie McGinest, and Taylor Mays should make the list just by all of the hurt he put on your WRs!

  24. MoreNCsarecoming Says:

Richard Wood was a 3 time All American and got left off of this sorry list. Haloti Ngata was perhaps the most dominant DL in conference history and he got left off. What about Lynn Swann too? And to be perfectly fair, Deltha Oneil should be on that list.

  25. GOGO Bears Says:

Well, one thing that is widely known is the constant threat to leave the makes us all excited, but it’s just another lie like the lie that Pete would never leave SC; that McKnight was innocent and would play in the bowl, or that the baseball team would be two and done.

  26. c98 Says:

Fair use violations anyone? The troll just copy/pasted an entire espn article into 2 off-topic comments. Isn’t that enough to ban a person?

  27. MoreNCsarecoming Says:

Ban? How about banning those who never make a football related post on a football blog? Why not ban JO who deletes my posts when I supply a link.

  28. GOGO Bears Says:

Well, if you want JO to be nicer to you, you might try not calling him a coward. You might also check out a blog for SC fans — but I suspect that might be a problem since Wearesc did ban the screen name morencsarecoming.

And how about that vow to leave? Is that the same kind of vow as Cal baseball is two and done?

And to make this a football post: I LOVE THAT SC IS SANCTIONED!!!! Yeah for deleting national championships!

  29. covinared Says:

the pac 10 did not exist when richard wood played. darell russell ? really? – was he behind the wheel or was it bastinelli?

  30. MoreNCsarecoming Says:

    http://espn.go.com/blog/pac12/post/_/id/22813/before-pac-12-day-best-pac-10-teams

Any wonder why Miller doesn’t have a single one of your teams on this list.

  31. MoreNCsarecoming Says:

Look at how one of your top recruits spoke of your school.

“I might end up making my decision after my football season is over,” said Odenigbo, a 6-foot-3 ½, 212-pounder from Centerville, Ohio. “My top 5 is Cal-Berkley, Stanford, Northwestern, Notre Dame and Ohio State.”

    LOL

  32. MoreSanctionsComing Says:

    Hear, hear!

“I LOVE THAT SC IS SANCTIONED!!!! Yeah for deleting national championships!”

  33. MoreNCsarecoming Says:

Glad to hear your recruit desires to major in Computer Sci. I would hate for him to become another Social Welfare major. Read this article and take note of the comments section.

    http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/355/675/924/

  34. Go8ears Says:

My hunch: the troll is either J.O. himself or his confederate who is helping him to get more traffic to his site by creating a stir on the board.

  35. MoreNCsarecoming Says:

Neither option. I have been much longer than most of you. Jay Heater liked me a lot because I talked football. I seldom if ever resort to non football related posts with the exception of a couple of posters who exist only to harass and stalk me. Many times I have wanted to leave this blog but have chose not to in order to defend against the lies and distortions made against opposing teams and players. These comments are uncalled for and once they stop then I will probably leave. OTOH if you would take a poll requesting to see who wants me to stay or leave I would think about abiding by the will of the majority.

  36. BlueNGold Says:

Way to go, moron- you post a so-called “article” that is months old with comments that are stale and trite. The crap you posty is repetitious, old and boring. And you could not get admitted to the Cal School of Social Welfare, much less earn a degree from it, if your life depended on it. Which is really too bad because a Cal SW degree might give you a real life and allow you to do something meaningful to do with yourself apart from acting out on your irrational and psychotically obsessive hatred of Cal and Cal football.
So when are you going to make good on your repeated(and tiresome) threats to leave this blog? How can we miss you if you won’t go away?

  37. Will Says:

I’m going to be concerned when moren stops posting on this site, because we all know that she will never leave on her own volition (you can look that word up, moren). She has spent nearly EIGHT years on Cal websites….EIGHT years!

And I’m a good person and would never wish for anything bad to happen to a person, even if she is as annoying as Moren. So if she ever stops posting on here…I’ll be worried. You have people that care about you, Moren!!!

  38. Boaltblue Says:

I look forward to the day that I can “miss” NoMoreNCsarecoming.

  39. MoreNCsarecoming Says:

Well since it is impossible for you posters to stay on topic let’s compare bands. That Cal state Berkely band is laughable compared to USC.

  40. covinared Says:

the usc band only plays 2 songs.

  41. Will Says:

See what I mean? She’ll never stop, and at least we’ll all know that she’s still okay.

I guess I’m just a compassionate human being, especially when it comes to dealing with the mentally challenged.

  42. GOGO Bears Says:

Lastly, look how pathetic the troll is. He wants us to make a poll about him? God, he truly needs attention. When he fake posts as boyson on LA Times, he then runs to sfgate to announce it and beg people to go read it.

He’s all alone, no law degree, and he clearly has a lot of time on his hands as his constant posting shows you. Check how many 6am posts he has and consider how sad and pathetic his life is that the first thing he does when he wakes up is run to the computer and post hate on Cal and Boyson.

Again — Pity the Troll — this is al he has in life.

  43. GOGO Bears Says:

As for Jay — Jay Heater never liked the troll. Jay was the one who gave him the moron nickname — it was Jay that caught on that the first letters spelled Moren — and that’s how he referred to the poster. He also announced time and time again that he wouldn’t answer moron’s posts as long as he kept referring to Cal as Cal State Berkeley. The moron never seemed to realize that Jay was making fun of him all the time.

As for the troll’s obsession with Boyson — it’s just pure sociolpath stuff. Check out his profiles using his fatadvisor and the9drawfs on sfgate. It’s scary how much stuff and hate he has towards Boyson. And Boyson’s still working because the girl who made the charges was lying — she refused to testify under oath when confronted. Troll knows this, but he’s mad at Boyson cause the guy got him deleted all over BI and Scout. morencsarecoming is banned at the SC boards — what does that tell you when his own team’s fans ban him?

So pity the troll – this is all he has.

  44. Boaltblue Says:

    Covinared:

You forgot to mention that the usc band only plays two monotonous songs. But otherwise you were right on.

  45. BlueNGold Says:

Ever watched the usc band try to march? Pathetic.

  46. MoreNCsarecoming Says:

Hey Sherm Boyson (aka GOGO Bears, MoreSanctionsComing and Advising Bear on CCTimes, The Advising Bear on Bear Insider, at least 15 blocked sign-ins on SF Gate including JahviatCal, BonnieAnderson, Cal Band Greatxx, USC Coachxx, etc and current sign ins JOxDeletes, Bear Talk and others why do you still deny your guilt in the case of that young female student of African American descent?

Did you not call her the ‘N’ word?
Did you not attempt to cause physical harm to her? Did you not threaten to “kick the sh#t out of” her?
Did you not call her and another woman the ‘B’ word?
And what was with rallying all of the athletes to your side so that you wouldn’t get fired? I am just guessing that isn’t a conflict of interest since many of the football and basketball players are enrolled in that program?

Someone who works and advises students especially in a field which is race sensitive should not even be thinking these things. Who cares if you still have your job. It’s totally unacceptable behavior and a person of integrity and honor would have resigned.

Here is just one of a few articles so the rest of the readers can read it for themselves.

    http://www.berkeleydailyplanet.com/issue/2005-12-09/article/22915?headline=Confrontations-Between-Student-and-Administrator-Lead-to-Accusations-of-Racism-By-J.-DOUGLAS-ALLEN-TAYLOR

Sad, sad sad. Shame on you. And quit being a coward writing on this blog like it isn’t you. You make me laugh.

  47. MoreNCsarecoming Says:

By the way,now you can cry to JO to have me banned just as you have on just about every site where I have posted. In some circles it’s called stalking and harassing and abusive behavior. Unfortunately innocent people like that woman in Davis gets affected by amateur sleuths like you and overzealous detectives. And you owe a big apology to JO for using him in one of your sign ins on SF Gate. I actually thought it was him. Best for you just to move on unless you want to post about football which if you ever did it would be the first time.

Anger and rage are terrible personality traits but there is hope. Seek help.

  48. GOGO Bears Says:

My my my. Just because JO is gone for the holiday and can’t delete you — you get angry again.

Are you angry that you have been exposed as posting on New Year’s Eve so that we all know you have no friends?

Are you angry about confiding in GB71 that you had to leave law school for a “medical reason” and everyone knows that’s a euphamism for mental breakdown?

Boyson still works at his job cuz the accusatiions weren’t true? Are you a lawyer? OR are you still, as you admitted to GB71, working as a travel agent.

I’m off for the holiday weekend. Going to see friends.

I bet you’ll be posting thru the weekend, just like you do on Christmas and Halloween and New Year’s Eve.

It must be sad being mentally ill and lonely all the time.

As for anger and rage — you seem to have a lot towards Mr Boyson — how come? What does Pastor Rick say about it all?

Pity the troll, folks – this is definitely all he has.

  49. GOGO Bears Says:

Here’s some links since you like them:

THis is what Boyson’s students say about him. What do your old classmates at UC Davis law say about you?

    http://berkeley.edu/news/berkeleyan/2005/11/09_staffheroes.shtml

  50. GOGO Bears Says:

And here is a story about someone just like our little troll.

    http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-anthrax-ivins-20110529,0,1007330.story

  51. GOGO Bears Says:

And check out how obsessed our little troll is by looking at his 9drawfs profile

    http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/contribute/sn/persona?plckPersonaPage=PersonaMessages&plckUserId=the9drawfs&User=the9drawfs&plckCurrentPage=1

Kinda sad to see him so obessed. But that is what happens with mentally ill people.

Bye now. Holidays and friends for me! What you got troll? You got posting on this forum which I know you will do while others have bbq’s and fireworks.

NEW YEAR’S EVE AND YOU WERE POSTING? HOW SAD AND PATHETIC!!!!

    LOL

  52. Larry Says:

I found this on the Raider board…

    KoolKell Says:
    July 7th, 2011 at 3:00 pm

FYI: Bumb Beech Is A Troll.

    What Is A Troll?

The term derives from “trolling”, a style of fishing which involves trailing bait through a likely spot hoping for a bite. The troll posts a message, often in response to an honest question, that is intended to upset, disrupt or simply insult the group.

Usually, it will fail, as the troll rarely bothers to match the tone or style of the group, and usually its ignorance shows.

    Why do trolls do it?

I believe that most trolls are sad people, living their lonely lives vicariously through those they see as strong and successful.

Disrupting a stable newsgroup gives the illusion of power, just as for a few, stalking a strong person allows them to think they are strong, too.

For trolls, any response is ‘recognition’; they are unable to distinguish between irritation and admiration; their ego grows directly in proportion to the response, regardless of the form or content of that response.

Trolls, rather surprisingly, dispute this, claiming that it’s a game or joke; this merely confirms the diagnosis; how sad do you have to be to find such mind-numbingly trivial timewasting to be funny?

Remember that trolls are cowards; they’ll usually post just enough to get an argument going, then sit back and count the responses (Yes, that’s what they do!).
