Football: Tedford on Lyles

Our college writer, Jon Wilner, met with Jeff Tedford today to discuss Cal’s association with Will Lyles. Tedford told Wilner that he’s only met Lyles once in a group setting and “wouldn’t know him if he walked through the door.” Tedford said he’s never talked with Lyles on the phone or exchanged text messages with him.

Tedford also showed Wilner the 2010 scouting package Cal received from Lyles.

You can see some tweets from Wilner on Tedford here.

Tedford answering questions clearly, willingly presenting all the evidence of what Cal received from Lyles to a reporter. Good move, and also have to believe that bodes well for Cal’s status as a non-issue in the Lyles debacle

Though we of course have no idea whether all of the evidence has in fact been presented, I certainly hope so. Definitely a smart move to try to stay out front on this. Oregon may have paid for the same thing as Cal (just paid more), but the way Kelly handled it fro start to finish makes it stink to high heaven.

I wonder whether the existence of other schools paying for “Will’s” services, and having him accompany Seastrunk, helps Oregon. I don’t claim to have any insight on what makes one a booster or what is in fact in violation of NCAA rules in this type of circumstance, but it seems to me that if “Will” was accompanying Seastrunk to more than one school, and was being paid for services because of his connection to that kid, my non-expert read is that “Will” is acting almost like an agent for the kid, and not as a booster for any particular school.

I had come to believe that coach Kendrick Thompson was Cal’s Texas connection – not a ‘consultant’.

Only $5,000?? I guess one gets what one pays for.

Here you (notice the you opposed to we) go again.

Who was responsible for the amateur play acting against Oregon?

I read where JT denied any knowledge and made one of his coaches take the fall.

This couldn’t be the same thing could it?

    Same old same old.

Aren’t there any SC blogs that would accept the same of posts from an SC fan? Irritating is bad enough — boring is worse.

I guess it’s time to go with

Okay — enough with the anger and bad news. Let’s check out something very inspriing.

A woman who is a quadriplegic actually graduated from UC Davis law school. She let NOTHING stop her from earing her degree. She didn’t get mad at the world for giving her a lousy life — she brought positiveness into the world.
