Cal got word today that Ricky Kreklow, a 6-6, 195-pound shooting guard from Missouri, will transfer to Berkeley, according to a report from KOMU8-TV in Columbia, Mo.
Kreklow, who reportedly picked Cal over Gonzaga, left Missouri last month in the wake of coach Mike Anderson moving on to Arkansas. Kreklow averaged 2.1 points in 9.8 minutes of action over 32 games as a freshman this past season. He must sit out the 2011-12 campaign and will have three seasons of eligibility at Cal.
Regarded as an excellent 3-point shooter, Kreklow is a native of Columbia and attended Rock Bridge HS, where he was Mr. Show Me Basketball as a senior, given to the state’s top high school player. He averaged 16.8 points and 6.0 rebounds as a high school senior and was twice an all-state selection.
His father, Wayne, is head coach of the Missouri women’s volleyball team, starred in basketball at Drake University and played one season (1980-81) with the Boston Celtics. His mother, Susan, is the Mizzou program’s director of volleyball.
