I think they got it about right. Cal has not shown it can beat Oregon State at home or away over the past several years. And I am not confident that the Bears can post a good performance up in Seattle early in the season, either. I look at the schedule and see about four or five wins. It all adds up to a fifth place finish and probably the second straight year without a bowl. I hope I am wrong, but I have the lowest expectations heading into the season since 2002.

I agree with Robert, though, that a convincing performance against Fresno State could set the tone for the whole year and change everything.

A recipe for a good season:

1. Build some momentum by smoking Fresno State in week 1.

2. Stay healthy.

3. Avoid the Jeckyl & Hyde performances of playing good at home and terrible on the road.

4. Use Maynard’s speed as a weapon not as a backup plan for the passing game.

5. Play exceptional defense as we know that this group can do.

I think we’re going to have a first-place team, a last place team, one second or third place team, and a 3 way tie for the other spot (which will be broken down by tiebreakers, of course, but still, same conference record). I think we’ll finish in that 3 way tie, wherever it is.

Love it! I love running under the radar. Don’t ask me why but I have a feeling that our Bears are going to surprise some folks this year. I believe our QB play will be better than expected and Keenan Allen is going to have a monster year! Go BEARS!
