Rising sophomore Allen Crabbe scored 25 points and Cal won its opener on its five-game European tour with an 89-71 victory over the Solna Vikings in Stockholm, Sweden on Sunday.
Newcomer Justin Cobbs, a transfer guard from Minnesota, added 12 points and six assists and walkon center Robert Thurman had 14 points and eight rebounds.
The Bears’ starting lineup, according to a twitter feed from assistant coach John Montgomery, was Brandon Smith, Cobbs, Crabbe, Richard Solomon and Thurman. The tweets indicated Harper Kamp saw limited first-half action off the bench and Jorge Gutierrez, who sprained his ankle during a scrimmage on Wednesday, did not play.
Solomon contributed nine points and four rebounds, Smith had eight points and six assists, and freshman forward David Kravish provided six points and five rebounds. Redshirt freshman Alex Rossi, who missed all of last season with lower abdominal issues, saw action, as did freshman Christian Behrens.
Will provide more details if/when we get them.
Cal plays next on Monday against Uppsala in Stockholm.
