Basketball: Gutierrez, Crabbe on Wooden list

Cal senior Jorge Gutierrez and sophomore Allen Crabbe are listed on the top-50 preseason list for the John R. Wooden Award, given each year to the nation’s top player.

The only other Pac-12 Conference players on the list are Reeves Nelson and Joshua Smith of UCLA.

BYU’s Jimmer Fredette won the award last season.

Here’s the Pac-12 Conference news release on the subject.

I said months ago that Jorge will be the Pac 12 player of the year. He also will be drafted as a point guard in the NBA and will make the final cut for whatever NBA team that drafts him.

GoBears49, I hope you are correct about Jorge.

I have loved his play since first I saw him in his early games his freshman year. I recall saying to my son then that this guy (Jorge) may become the best guard to play at Cal since Jason Kidd. Assuming good health and further improvement (as he has demonstrated in the last two years), I believe that he will have proved to be the best, most valuable, guard since Kidd.
