Good God, no matter the outcome you get the feeling that Barkley is going to light up the scoreboard against Cal's defense. He is WAY better than any qb the Bears have seen this year. Robert Woods is the best receiver in the conference. I don't think think the match ups favor Cal. This is just one of those cases where they have superior talent, period. The coaching is about even.

The Utah game is the next best chance to get a W.

I'm aware of it Bigdruid. Players have played in the secondary with a cast before. Cast or no cast would have liked to see him get a drive or two each game. That way we prevent things like him not realizing the speed of the game until we're at Autzen. Could have utilized earlier games as learning experiences for other players.

Juancho: So, you are aware that McClure had his hand in a cast up until recently, right? The coaches said they wanted him to get more PT, but he couldn't play well enough with the cast.

I'm not sure which games you guys are watching - every game I've seen (except for the Oregon/Presby blowouts) have been nailbiters. You really think we ought to risk losing those Fresno/Colorado games in order to give our backup QB more PT? Seems to me that Tedford is doing it right - getting Bridgford significant snaps when the game is out of reach (Presby and U of O).

Also, I'm not sold on Bigelow at this point. He had a couple of runs against Presby, but based on his KO returns he hasn't shown me that he's earned more PT than he's already seeing. He's got all of spring/fall camp of next year to prepare himself - we don't need to rush him on the field this year.

Feels like another blowout loss is right around the corner.

McClure's bad start could have been prevented had he seen some meaningful time against some other teams. Fresno State and Presbyterian should have been an introduction for a lot of the freshman or redshirts. Instead McClure had zero game experience until Oregon. Not good preparation.

Where are our receivers other than Allen and Jones?

I'd like to see Bigelow play a lot more at RB. Get all the damn talented young guys a meaningful series or two in each half in each game. We're not contending for the rose bowl anyway.

Wouldn't mind seeing Tedford borrow some of Urban Meyer's old tactics, and give the backup QB a drive each half too. Sit Zack Wayward a drive each half and give Bridgeford meaningful experience. Maybe it'll help both.

Oregon was KILLING us with the run, over 200 yards rushing. If we dropped back to help the CBs it would have just been James/Barner tearin us up instead of Thomas and Huff.

No doubt - you'd think the defensive coordinator would adjust his scheme to provide some safety help for a true freshman corner. Granted, that likely opens up the run game a bit, but you'd think a coaching staff with some creativity would find a way to strike a balance.

Was watching Rodgers last night. Hard to believe that it's been 7 years since we had a decent QB at Cal (and I'm not one to put Longshore in the "decent" category - he put up good numbers, but he lacked an ounce of intangibles). Maynard's got the intangibles, but horrible mechanics. You'd think a QB guru could fix that....
