Football: Quarterback update

Jeff Tedford said today that he will “evaluate it as the week goes on” and didn’t name a starting quarterback for Saturday’s game against Washington State.

Tedford didn’t say how he planned on dividing the reps between Zach Maynard and Allan Bridgford, but simply said “We’ll evaluate how the week goes with both quarterbacks and we’ll take it from there.  I have no idea what our game plan is yet or anything like that.”

Go Allen go! I’m rooting for you in the QB competition. This is your chance. take it!

“I have no idea what our game plan is yet or anything like that”
Really? That might explain some things.
Hey Jeff, this is just a suggestion: You may want to either work on that about now, or better yet, hire an O.C. that can do that for you?
Hey Sandy, are you getting this?

Blah blah blah. Who cares what Tedford says anymore. It’s all blather, proven TIME AND Time again for 5-6 years now. This ship is going DOWN… hard.

He’s worse than Braun. He’s Holmoe. Holmoe didn’t get to play cupcakes like Presbyterian, Colorado and Utah.

Tedford sounds like someone whos lost the competitive edge. How many of you at work would say something like “i have no idea”

  • covinared

its called keeping ones cards close to chest. why tell wsu which of two qb’s with different styles will start so they can plan accordingly? He’s already made up his mind. ” Santino, never tell anyone outside the family what you are thinking….”

Maynard seems to be getting the “KID GLOVE” treatment by the press and the fans. Remeber back to the poor old Nate Longshore days. If he had played two games like SC and UCLA, peoples would have demanded his head on a chopping block, they would have wanted to hang him by his none too accurate thumbs.

Maynard is in way over his head. It’s not just the interceptions, but the poor passing accuracy and an inability to run the offense. The experiment should end now. What is there to lose by giving Bridgford a shot? The season is slipping away fast!

Haha great Godfather reference. My favorite character too. Although Tom is a close second. He should have inherited the family…

Covinared – you’ve always been a defender/Kool Aid Drinker; I love that you suggest that Tedford is keeping his cards close to the vest to not tip off the powerful WSU Cougars. Sort of like how he closes practices to the media because that has made all of the difference in making sure we have a chance to get the Rose Bowl.

Tedford isn’t the Michael here, or even the Sonny. At best he’s become Freddo – way over his head, clueless, and not above selling out the family.

  • Juancho

    Eric so who’s Tom?

  • H8sRed

I’m mostly a Tedford supporter, but he does leave me scratching my head sometimes. He’s absolutely right not to tip his hand as to which QB will be the starter. It doesn’t matter whether you’re playing WSU or Alabama, you don’t telegraph your moves if you don’t have to. WSU now has to try to prepare for more contingencies.

Still, I don’t know why Tedford has been so stubborn about not letting Bridgford play, even if it’s just for a series or two so that Maynard get his head straight again. When he arrived at Cal, Tedford made a point of sitting any running back who fumbled, for at least a series. Obviously, you can’t do that with a QB every time he throws a pick. But after two picks and countless other misfires, it’s a disservice to the rest of the team not to bring in someone else, if for no other reason than for a change of pace.

    Who is Tom? Mike Montgomery.

  • Juancho

    Montgomery it is.

  • calbearclaw

Wondering is KA is dictating the QB position? Take a look.

  • calbearclaw

More on ZM and KA. Read the comments. Beyond disturbing.

The fog of Rodgers is lifting and the wretched, unthinkable truth is now coming into focus.

Bizarre secrecy (closed practices), overt hostility towards the media, subtle intimidation disguised as sturdy benevolence, a bizarre attachment to sunglasses, repetitive propaganda, overstatement of achievement, a near cult like following, flagrant nepotism (his son was installed on the team), scared colleagues (Barbour), nefarious courtship of valuable foot soldiers (KA), all while living in a remote compound far from his people (Lafayette).

Tedford has become a bloated dictator.

Rise up Golden Bear faithful, rise up.
