    BRAVO athletic department!

Can you imagine doing this at Duke, Kentucky or Kansas?

No…because we are not Duke, Kentucky or Kansas.)

I applaud this overall effort by the athletic department. They are doing a lot of innovative things to get more buts in seats this years. Season ticket holders get a chance to win tons of serious prices if they come to 15 games or more http://www.calbears.com/benefits/attendance_awards.html

Us season ticket holders (arguably the most passionate about *going* to games) can also get free tickets to low demand games. I’m using those to take others this Friday and introduce them to how much fun Cal basketball is.

In all, they are doing a lot of things right here and that should be commended. This, btw, cannot be said for football this year (ticket prices, student section, location of band, etc.).

    Go Bears!

I think there’s also free food this Friday night to the first 1000 students.

Given the student turnout at AT&T, this may not be enough incentive to motivate the average student to walk all the way down to the game.

Perhaps limo rides from Dwight Derby or an aid station stocked with Red Bull halfway between Unit 2 and the gym is just what the Athletic Department needs to get the place half full of apathetic students.

Remember, these students—like the grownups in the Bay Area—have many entertainment options. Free tickets to see a top 20 basketball team. Blah.

    Go Bears!
