Former San Leandro HS star Jared Cunningham scored eight of his career-high 37 points in overtime and Oregon State (4-0) posted a signature victory with a 100-95 triumph over Texas (2-1) in the Legends Classic at East Rutherford, N.J.

Cunningham, a junior guard, has scored 72 points in the past two games and is averaging 26.0 for the young season. He shot 20 for 23 from the free throw line and added nine rebounds.

“He does everything for us,” OSU coach Craig Robinson said. “The magnitude of what he had to do for us tonight against Texas is big-time. And it’s becoming a regular thing.”

Elsewhere . . .

   – Cal Poly 42, USC 36: Ugh. The Trojans (1-3) couldn’t even score as many points as their football team did in an upset at Oregon. It was the fewest points USC has scored in a game since a 40-35 overtime loss to UCLA in 1967 — 44 years ago!  USC shot 32 percent, made just one 3-pointer and got pounded on the boards by the Mustangs at home. Transfer Aaron Jones scored 15 points for USC, but top scorer Maurice Jones was 1 for 11 from the field.

   – Montana State 70, Utah 64: Josh Watkins scored 22 points but the Utes (1-2) lost at home. The visiting Bobcats shot 52 percent from the field.

Colorado and Utah really don’t bring much to the Pac-10 (neither Football nor hoops)….Larry Scott needs to convince Presidents to add Oklahoma and OSU to the conference….forget about Texas, their TV contract is just a ticking time bomb…no reason to bring that into the conference. But the conference needs help!
