Basketball: Cover your eyes

A few pieces of grim statistical history relating to the Bears’ 92-53 loss to Missouri:

   — The 39-point margin equals Cal’s fourth-worst in a game since 1937.

   — It was the Bears’ worst loss in 106 games under Mike Montgomery.

   — It was their worst non-conference defeat EVER.

I thought our guys were better than what they showed tonight.
How could they let it get so out of hand?
Would love to hear some quotes from everyone.
Man oh man that was ugly, made the football loss to ucla look pretty.
    Damn

  • Uh Huh!

    officials.

  • bigdruid

Yeah, this was disappointing. I didn’t think any team could exploit our defense like that. Hats off to Missouri though – those guys played an incredible game.

BTW, I was also troubled by Vitale’s comment that Monty was complaining that the fans aren’t coming out to Haas to support the team. I wonder why not?

Does our athletic program have a rare disease? How is it that every time we get ranked, we sink like a lead zeppelin?

The bigger the stage the bigger the face plant.

  • Uh Huh!

    recruiting.

I have to laugh. Re-watching some highlights, EVERY, and I mean EVERY drive to the hope where a Mizzou guard “beat” a Cal defender off of the dribble included that same guard grabbing and pulling the Cal defender with the off hand, then pushing off once in front of them. Comical.

Now that is quick. How does it go? Mizzou guards’ hands are quicker than the ref’s eyes?

I hate when commentators talk about people not coming out to games. Not just Cal, but when commentators make that statement in general.

The economy sucks and people are broke. Might be hard for Dick Vitale to understand what being broke is like. But guess what the economy never had any jobs as part of the mini recovery of the past two years.

Give fans a break with the “coming out to the games” comments on TV. I find them insensitive.

  • wehofx

    Man, that really was ugly.
I hate to complain about officiating but…
Regardless, their guards were wicked quick and we were a step slow – on both ends. Only consolation, Mizzou is a quality team.

For me, it was frustrating that our g’s couldn’t feed the post – our big advantage. Crabbe wasn’t hitting so the floor didn’t get spread. A really bad night. As bad as last year’s brick fest vs ND. But they’ll bounce back.
    GO Bears! Beat asu.

We’ll learn from this and bounce back. Remember how we fared after that horrible game vs Notre Dame.

I am sorry but the parking at Haas sucks, unless you are a donor or season ticket holder. Taking BART after a night game gets me home at midnight. When the greedy athletic department moved the students to the base line that didn’t help either. There is a ton of parking on the Berkeley campus, open it up and don’t charge an arm and a leg and maybe more people will come.

  • rollonubears

Good point about the parking, Rocko. It’s a disaster. I used to work for Parking and Transportation when I was a student. Nobody wanted to work game nights. Everyone hates you. They could bust out the wall to the track stadium and make that a parking lot for the games. If baseball had been canceled, evans diamond would have made a nice lot as well. The biggest problem is that a school with 30,000+ students can’t help fill a 12,000 seat arena. I’m sure if we could actually STAY in the top 25 for a season, that all would change.
