Football: Punter Bryan Anger to get award at halftime of Cal-SJSU basketball game

Cal punter Bryan Anger, a three-time first-team all-conference honoree, will receive the College Football Performance Awards Elite Punter Trophy during a ceremony at halftime of Wednesday’s basketball game between Cal and San Jose State at Haas Pavilion.

   — Texas injury update (from of the Austin American-Statesman): The Longhorns will play without senior strong safety Christian Scott but will have senior strong safety Blake Gideon for the Holiday Bowl. Scott had surgery Tuesday on his right wrist. Gideon suffered a left hand fracture in the 48-24 loss to Baylor. He’s wearing a cast, but is expected to participate in bowl practices.

   — New coach Mike Leach says WSU can win big.

   — The American Football Coaches Association All-America team features just three Pac-12 players: QB Andrew Luck and OL David DeCastro of Stanford and all-purpose selection LaMichael James of Oregon.
