With barely 24 hours to go before the Pac-12 basketball season begins, there is nothing new and concrete to report on the status of Cal sophomore forward Richard Solomon.
Solomon is listed as day to day and it’s unclear whether he will dress for Thursday’s conference opener at home against USC. He reportedly has done very little in practice this week while recovering from a stress reaction in his foot that has forced him out of the team’s two most recent games.
My guess — and I’m telling you this from San Diego — is that Solomon will not play against the Trojans. The Bears would not hold him to “save” him for Saturday’s game vs. UCLA. They will play him when he’s healthy and not easily susceptible to a recurrence of the problem.
For now, here is my preview of the Pac-12 race from the Wednesday edition.
